About The Collaborative

The Siting Clean Collaborative is an initiative to help map, coordinate, and advise the growing field of philanthropy, non-profit organizations, academics, government agencies, and industry groups who are seeking to responsibly accelerate local clean energy siting and permitting and create meaningful benefits for project host communities - an implementation priority enabled by the suite of recent federal infrastructure and climate laws.

The Collaborative aims to identify and help fill priority strategic gaps in the field; to be a center-of-gravity for strategy development, alignment, and coordination; a place for experimentation, incubation, and learning via the Siting Clean Catalyst; and to identify cross-sector strategic challenges and facilitate solutions on the rapidly evolving issue of local renewable energy siting.

Five Strategic Areas

Better Local Processes and Community Benefits

More inclusive, deliberative conversations within host communities can build greater social license for clean energy projects and generate greater community benefits, enabling more renewables to be locally approved and built.

Local Decision Maker Technical Assistance

If local decision-makers have access to more accurate information about clean energy benefits and impacts from sources they trust, they will be better equipped to manage critical local siting processes.

Storytelling and Comms

When armed with state-of-the-art digital tools, customized media support, and compelling, locally relevant content, local supporters of clean energy projects will be more effective at combatting disinformation and more successful at promoting positive local siting outcomes.

Field Organizing

With greater organizing effort and resources, local clean energy supporters can be empowered to ensure local clean energy approvals.

State Siting Policy

State legislatures must craft policies to ensure their clean energy siting and permitting policies appropriately balance decision-making authority over critical energy infrastructure between local and state actors.
